Meeting Part B – Escape Windows

According to the Building Regulations 1991 Approved Document B Section 2, 2000 edition, escape windows should have an unobstructed openable area of 0.33m2, with a height and width minimum of 450mm. The opening may be angled. In addition, the bottom of the window opening must not be more than 1100mm above the floor.

Casement windows

Standard module Sheerframe side hung casement windows comply when fitting with 'egress' hinges. Narrow module casement windows can be made with floating mullions.

Mock-Sash windows

In order to maintain consistency of appearance, special mock-sash escape windows are available in a choice of three different configurations.

All options incorporate the following features:

  • Mock sash is three dimensional with different depths to top and bottom panes.
  • Top light incorporates integral routed horn to give a true authentic look.
  • All designs maintain the character and look of standard mock sash windows
